Sewing on paper {tips & techniques}

Sewing on paper is actually very easy.
I don't use any special needle and I've never had a problem with my machine sewing through the paper.
I do recommend using a tiny bit of adhesive to hold down the paper you are sewing as they tend to slide very easily.
It's also best to go very slowly. Once that needle makes a hole in the paper it will stay (unlike sewing with fabric).
Since papercrafting involves such a large color palette
I recommend getting the cheap mini spools of thread that come in multi-color packs.
{I get these at the dollar store}

Instead of having to match your bobbin thread every time you change colors
I use "invisible thread".
It's similar to fishing line and they sell it in the notions department of any craft store {I got mine at Walmart}.
I highly recommend giving it a try!

Since I like to do alot of zigzag stitching on my pages
I made a little key card for the different length & width settings on my machine.
Having this handy card helps to create a page & get the look I'm going for.

Hope this encourages you to include sewing on your scrapbook pages or cards.
It's very easy to do {if you have a sewing machine} and adds such a great look to your projects.
Happy crafting!

Fun tutorial! I've only sewn on paper a few times, and I admit I thought maybe I would ruin my machine (or that it would be better to have a separate machine for the paper projects). Guess not! :o) Not that I even remotely have room for sewing right now, but I'll definitely do it more often when I get set up for sewing again. Thanks for the inspiration.
