Got scraps?

So I’ve been very inspired from the Creative Jump Start videos.  I had alittle time to be creative and knew I needed to make more thank you cards {I’m getting them in the mail soon- promise}.

Inspired to use my scraps, I pulled out my scrap bin to start.  I use a cardboard tray that paint cans come in.  These are the perfect size for all size of scraps.  I just hate throwing paper away.  The paint guy at Home Depot was more than happy to give me one.

I pulled out a bunch of scraps that looked nice together.  I do not separate my scraps by color {sorry- I’m just not that organized}.  A lot of them were strips- just perfect for this project.

I cut some cards from white cardstock {I buy this at Walmart in a large pack.  It’s the same as scrapbooking paper but cheaper since I use it for my card bases}.  I make a regular 5.5 x 4.25 card {basically 2 from 1 sheet of 8.5 x 11”}.  Then I put a couple lines of adhesive on the tops and sides.  I happened to use my removable adhesive because it will stay in place permanently later {and I bought some by accident. There are only so many uses for it- this is one of them}.

From there, I started laying my strips on one side of the card.  I went with blues here but you could mix it up.  I found having some type of pattern makes it look prettier {I also found I have very little pattern paper scraps!}.

After I had them down where I wanted them, I trimmed off the edges near the fold.  You want this trimmed as close as possible to the white cardstock.  This is important for the next step...

Time to sew two lines on the edges of the card.  Make sure to not sew over the fold.  Need tips to sew on paper?  I have a tutorial for that: sewing on paper.
Now that the sewing will keep the strips in place, you can trim all the edges.
I just stamped a “Thank you” on the front and all done!
I think they came out super cute and they were so easy.  I made five in about one hour.
