My Grandpa the beekeeper

When I saw the post for A Year in the Life of an Art Journal, I had to ponder it for awhile.
THE PROMPT: My Favorite Things
ie: a few of the things you LOVE about someone you love. Can be alive or dead.THE STUFF: Lists and ephemera
ie: have a few tokens from that someone? Maybe the cover of the CD with "your song" or a napkin from the restaurant you both love to eat at...THE TECHNIQUE: Pockets
ie: Use pockets to store those "things" on your page.

I knew I had this picture of my Grandfather from his local newspaper (because I have been cleaning my craft room, little by little) and I wasn't sure what I would end up doing with it.  Then I decided- why was I saving it in a box?  Right?  So out it came into my art journal and I ended up loving the page. The ephemera is the honey label I cut from one of his jars.  I could not figure out how to add a pocket so I left that out (something I don't normally do for AYITL but I knew it wasn't against the rules).  One thing I found that has been difficult is the size of my altered book.  It's not very big so I have to find very small elements to work with.

I have also added this page to the Scrap Your Crap challenge to use 3 different stamps.  The mini bumble bee is 1, the words inside the hexagon is 2, and the hexagon itself is 3.  I bought the stamp set because it was shaped like honey comb.  But sometimes the words in the center didn't fit.  So I took one I didn't think I'd use often and cut the words out of it.  So happy I did because now I can stamp my own background papers.  Bee keeping scrapbook supplies are hard to come by!

Thanks for looking and be sure to leave a comment so I can check out what you've made for the challenges too!

What a lovely page! You are right about the newspaper cutting, why keep it in a box when it should be shared! I wish I had joined in on this art journal thing, it looks like fun!
