I feel fortunate to have great gardener friends. When I was told about a lilac farm going out of business I knew I had to check it out.
The farm is called Bates Hop House in Cherry Valley. Just a beautiful place! Here's the view we had while we looked around:
Some of the lilacs were kept in the high tunnels and were blossoming already.
My sister and I made the short drive and it was SO worth the trip. $15 for each lilac bush. We packed the back of her car with as many as we could fit. I didn't realize there were so many different varieties.
Here's what I got:
- Nocturne {blue color}
- Paul Thirion {purple-red buds, lavender florets}
- Pocahontas {violet}
- Yankee Doodle {darkest purple with small white center}
- Silver King {silvery-lavender, striking beauty}

I love lilacs. My mom has some white lilacs that she got from her grandmother's place.
